It only takes a few simple steps to apply at Webster Vienna. Check out this video and learn how:

Bachelor's (Undergraduate) degree applicants should possess a completed secondary/high school degree, have good academic records (minimum grade point average or GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale or its equivalent in non-U.S. grading systems), and meet the minimum required English proficiency to be considered for admission.

Freshmen, students who enroll at Webster directly from high school or transfers in from another accredited university with less than one year of courses (less than 30 credits), are encouraged to start in the Fall or Spring semesters due to the required first-year semester courses and the sequencing of degree major courses.

Transfer students from another accredited college or university who have accumulated over 30 U.S. credit hours (60 ECTS) as transfer credits may enroll in any of our starting terms (including the optional Summer term) depending on the availability of the classes they need to continue their studies. Please make sure that your university is accredited by your country's Ministry of Education or has an official regional U.S. accreditation, otherwise, Webster will not be able to transfer any courses you have completed into your Webster degree record. All transfer credits go towards the U.S./American degree diploma (not the Austrian-accredited WVPU diploma).

Master's (Graduate) degree applicants should possess a Bachelor degree from an accredited university. Additionally:

  • A bachelor's degree in psychology is generally required for admission to the MA in Psychology program.
  • At least two years of relevant work experience are preferred for admission to the MBA program.

The university should be accredited by the Ministry of Education of the country it operates in and the applicant's academic record should show at least a minimum American grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Transcripts not showing grades using the American grade point average (GPA) will be converted by WVPU's Admissions Office. Due to our curriculum's thorough coverage of subject content, students interested in the MA in International Relations program are not required to have a corresponding Bachelor degree in that field.

Due to the diverse backgrounds of our student population, acceptance is determined by a variety of characteristics. Decisions are based on (but are not limited to) academic background, English proficiency, motivation, global perspectives, extracurricular involvement and strength of essay.

Webster Vienna offers two intakes for full-time bachelor’s programs per year. The spring intake begins in February, and the fall intake begins in September.

Webster Vienna also offers a part-time program intake in October. By choosing this part-time term, you gain access to a limited number of classes to choose from — three Common Core Module (non-major) classes only. You can shift to full-time studies in the following semester.

Your Webster Vienna application essay should be a new, original work written by you specifically for this application.

Use the essay to demonstrate your English writing ability, proper structure, correct grammar, diction and vocabulary. Read the Undergraduate Application topics for your essay:

Undergraduate Application Essay Topics

You should write a brief essay (300–500 words) on a topic that means something to you.

Your essay has to be your own work, done without anybody’s help and without any external resources, specifically for this application.

If you are struggling to think of a topic, please feel free to use one of the suggestions below.

Topic I:

Write about your role model or a person you admire, and explain how you think Webster University could help you follow their example. If you do not have a specific role model, write about the qualities you hope to embody when you graduate from Webster.

Topic II:

Have you ever been in a situation where you felt compelled to question or challenge a belief or idea held by someone else? What prompted your thinking? What was the outcome?

Topic III:

Describe a problem you would like to solve or a service you would like to provide. It can be an intellectual challenge, a response to an ethical dilemma, or something personal and every day: the scale is irrelevant. Explain its significance to you and what steps you would take to deliver an outcome.

Topic IV:

Describe an idea or concept you find so engaging that it makes you lose all track of time. Why does it captivate you, and how do you think it could influence the development of your personality?

Topic V:

Have you ever learned (or failed to learn!) something that completely changed your life? It can be something complex or something very simple. Describe what it was and how it changed you or your circumstances.

Topic VI:

Write about an object of artistic expression that you love — it can be a book, a painting, a play, a film, a song or album, a sculpture, architectural work, anything! Explain why you find it so special and how it has affected you.

Webster Vienna requires one recommendation letter from a teacher, professor or school counselor. If you have more than one available, you can upload extra letters.

A CV or resume is not required for the bachelor’s programs applications. However, you are allowed to upload one to support your application.

You will need to reach a certain minimum score in the English examination to be eligible to apply to a Webster Vienna bachelor’s program.

For example, the minimum overall score for the English (IELTS) exam should be 6.0, and the score for the TOEFL iBT should not be below 80. Visit the Admissions page for more information.

If you do not have the minimum level of English required to study a bachelor’s degree with WVPU, you might still be eligible to enroll in our English preparatory program. Through this program you work to improve your academic language proficiency for one or two semesters.

After completion of the program, you will take another English examination (IELTS) to see if you have reached the appropriate level and if so, you can start your selected bachelor program. Visit our Welcome to Vienna page for more information.

The English language requirement may be waived for English native speakers or citizens of exempted countries after the passport has been uploaded to the online application.

In some instances, the WVPU admissions team might be able to waive the English proficiency requirement for applicants who are not native English speakers. You can ask our admission team directly about your specific situation by emailing admissions@webster.ac.at.

At Webster Vienna, we accept a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale or its equivalent in non-U.S. grading systems. We will make our own calculations using our internal grading scale, to convert non-U.S. grades into our American GPA. (Note that a much higher GPA will be required to be eligible to apply for new student scholarships.)

Please note we look at each application holistically, meaning that we will not just base our admissions decision on your grades and GPA alone. The Webster Vienna admissions team will also pay special attention to your essay, recommendation letters and transcripts.

No, this is not required, though certain subjects could be helpful as a foundation for future coursework.

Yes, Webster Vienna accepts transfer students, but there are some important regulations with these applications:

  • Final processing of transfer credits is only done by our main campus in the USA after submission of an official final transcript from the other university (with certified English translations if not issued in English) and the needed course descriptions
  • Courses with a below-average grade (below “C” in the American grading scale) will not be eligible for transfer credit
  • Equivalencies in the Webster list of courses are determined by a comparison of course syllabi and content between the two universities. If the courses are not at all similar, the student will still need to complete all or majority of required courses
  • Transfer credits only count toward the U.S./American degree, not the Austrian-accredited WVPU degree or diploma. Therefore, those who transfer more than the degree-specific maximum number of transfer credits will be eligible ONLY for the American bachelor's diploma from our parent university in the USA and will not be eligible for the Austrian diploma.

Our campus is located in the magnificent and historic Palais Wenkheim. This former palace was completely renovated to include state-of-the-art facilities, while preserving the traditional features of the historic palace.

Webster Vienna offers small class sizes, with an average of 15 students per class. This guarantees a more personalized academic dynamic between the students and the faculty/professors.

The Webster Vienna campus includes numerous facilities for its students to explore, such as a well-equipped library, with printer/copier/scanner, computer station, a database of more than 17,000 books, e-books and newspapers, project rooms for group work and more.

There is also a video studio and an audio studio, a piano room, Mac lab, student lounge and a neuroscience research lab for the psychology students.

As for student services, all students have access to the WVPU Language Center, Student Resource Center, Career Services and Student Counselling Services.

No, there is no on-campus dormitory.

Instead, Webster Vienna partners with accommodation providers to secure housing options near the campus. The Social Hub (formally The Student Hotel) or TSH for example, is 15 minutes away on foot, and other options include Milestone, STUWO Student Housing, The Fizz and other buildings.
